Scottsdale weather basics: dry, sunny, and cool at night
Scottsdale weather by season is the first thing we walk guests through, because it decides everything from the packing list to which house we recommend. This is a dry desert with a lot of sun, almost no humidity, and a big swing between daytime and evening temperatures. The sun feels intense even in the cooler months.
First-time visitors are always surprised by how fast the evenings cool down. Early mornings in fall, winter and spring are crisp. That swing is why the houses that work best here balance outdoor living with real indoor comfort: patios and pools for the day, cool interiors for the hours in between.
Spring in Scottsdale: March and April
Spring is the season most people picture. Days are warm without being punishing, evenings stay pleasant, and the desert is at its most alive. March is especially popular, full of guests who came to hike, play golf, eat outside and stay out late. April holds the same weather, with afternoons warming as summer approaches.
Because demand is high, book early. The larger houses go first, and a group that waits until February for a March week is choosing from what is left.
Fall in Scottsdale: October and November
Fall gives you spring's weather with a calmer pace. Once the summer heat fades, the trails and patios come back, and evenings cool without getting cold. October suits travelers who want warm days without peak-season crowds. November is, in our opinion, one of the most balanced months of the year: sunny, mild, easy.
It is also a good time to look beyond the city core. Guests who want privacy and scenery, at our Troon Ranch casitas in North Scottsdale for instance, tend to love November.
Winter in Scottsdale: December through February
Winter is peak season, driven by everyone escaping snow. Evenings are cool, but days are comfortable for walking, hiking, golf and sightseeing, and the sun is reliable. This is when extended-stay guests, remote workers and seasonal residents arrive, so availability tightens and large flexible houses are in the highest demand.
Plan far ahead for winter. If you are flexible on dates, watching for openings can still turn up a good week.
Summer in Scottsdale: June through August
Summer is the quietest season and the best value of the year. Daytime temperatures are high, so the day gets rearranged: early mornings out, shaded afternoons, and long, warm evenings. The people who love summer here are the ones who came for space and privacy rather than a packed itinerary.
The house matters most in summer. A private pool, deep shade, and indoor entertainment space decide whether the week is wonderful or hard. Casa Palacio's grotto pool was built for exactly this. Late summer also brings the monsoon: dramatic skies and short bursts of rain, usually in the evening, that most guests end up watching from the patio.
May and September: the overlooked shoulder months
May and September sit between the peak seasons and the extreme heat. They offer warm weather, lighter crowds, more open dates and softer pricing, which makes them the smartest months for a longer stay. They are the ones we would book for ourselves.
